Native American Education Program – Title VI

 

Crescent School District is honored to serve students and families of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, our local sovereign nation. We value our government-to-government relationship with the Tribe and are committed to supporting the academic, cultural, and social success of our Native American students.

Our Title VI Native American Education Program provides additional supports and services for students who are eligible under the federal Title VI Indian Education guidelines for American Indian and Alaska Native students. These services are designed to enhance educational achievement, strengthen school-family-community connections, and ensure that Native students feel welcomed, respected, and supported in our schools.

Our district has a Native American Liaison, Yvonne Bolstrom, who serves as the primary contact for families, students, and school staff. Yvonne assists with student support, family engagement, cultural connections, and coordination of Title VI services.

We work collaboratively with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, families, and our school community to maintain a program that reflects shared values, supports student success, and builds meaningful relationships.

• Student academic check-ins
• Communication between families and teachers

• Helping families navigate school systems
• Support with attendance or school engagement

“Frequently Asked Questions”

Q: Does my child have to be enrolled in a tribe to qualify?
A: No. Families can indicate ancestry on the ED-506 form even without formal enrollment.

Q: Is cultural content included in the program?
A: Any cultural components are coordinated respectfully and in collaboration with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.

Q: Does Title VI replace other school services?
A: No. Title VI adds support but does not replace school-wide services, special education, or other programs.
